Child Protection & Safeguarding Policy

Elizabeth Humanitarian Life Foundation, operating under the trademarked name Elizabethan H&H Foundation (Honey and Honour), is committed to promoting the safety, dignity, wellbeing, and protection of all children and young people engaged through its programmes, activities, platforms, events, partnerships, and developmental initiatives.

The Foundation recognizes that every child has the right to grow, learn, participate, and develop within environments that are safe, respectful, supportive, and free from abuse, exploitation, neglect, discrimination, harassment, or harm.

This policy is guided by the Child Rights Act 2003 and applicable Nigerian child protection legislation.

OUR COMMITMENT

Elizabethan H&H Foundation is committed to:

• Promoting the best interests of children and young people

• Creating safe and supportive environments for participation and development

• Preventing abuse, exploitation, neglect, bullying, harassment, and harmful practices

• Responding appropriately to safeguarding concerns brought to the Foundation’s attention

• Building and strengthening awareness of child protection and safeguarding responsibilities among staff, volunteers, partners, facilitators, and participants

WHO THIS POLICY APPLIES TO

This policy applies to:

• Staff members

• Volunteers

• Consultants

• Facilitators

• Partner organizations

• Contractors

• Service providers

• Programme participants

• Parents and guardians participating in Foundation activities

• Any individual representing or engaging with the Foundation in connection with its activities

EXPECTED STANDARDS OF CONDUCT

Individuals engaged with the Foundation are expected to:

• Treat children and young people with dignity and respect

• Promote safe, supportive, and inclusive interactions

• Avoid conduct that may place children at risk

• Respect personal boundaries and privacy

• Report safeguarding concerns appropriately

• Comply with applicable laws, policies, and safeguarding requirements

PHOTOGRAPHY, MEDIA AND CONSENT

The Foundation is committed to respecting the privacy, dignity, and rights of children and young people.

Photographs, videos, testimonials, recordings, or other identifiable information relating to children will only be collected, used, stored, or published in accordance with applicable safeguarding, consent, privacy, and legal requirements.

REPORTING CONCERNS

Any concern relating to the safety, wellbeing, protection, or welfare of a child or young person should be reported promptly through appropriate Foundation channels.

Safeguarding concerns will be handled with appropriate sensitivity and confidentiality, subject to applicable safeguarding, welfare, and legal obligations.

Where concerns meet the threshold for statutory intervention, the Foundation will escalate appropriately to relevant government agencies or law enforcement authorities.

The Foundation will take reasonable and appropriate steps to review, assess, and respond to safeguarding concerns in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and legal requirements.

SAFER ENGAGEMENT

The Foundation seeks to promote safe recruitment, responsible volunteer engagement, appropriate supervision, and safeguarding awareness across its programmes, activities, and partnerships.

PARTNERSHIPS AND COLLABORATION

The Foundation seeks to promote safeguarding standards across its partnerships, collaborations, programmes, and engagements and may work with schools, communities, institutions, professionals, and relevant stakeholders to strengthen child protection practices.

POLICY REVIEW

The Foundation reserves the right to review, update, and strengthen this policy periodically to reflect evolving safeguarding requirements, best practices, operational realities, and legal obligations.
